My Blogging Journey: Finding Time to Blog

It’s not easy finding the time to blog when you are already so busy. Instead, you have to purposely make time. In fact, this week alone I contemplated backing off from everything and throwing in the towel because I felt like I just couldn’t make time for it all.

I wish I could say that it is easy to do what I do, but I don’t recommend it. Blogging? Yes, you can do this. Juggling ten blogs while four of those are online stores that require me to constantly create new products plus make customer orders while promoting it all on social media? I don’t recommend it. No. Not at all.

I’ve been super busy at my full time job and my side hustles. But I don’t want to call them side hustles, because truly, I want these to replace that full time job. You see, I have goals. I have a set amount of time to get to where I need to be. I want to eventually be able to hire out writers for the blogs. I want to eventually be able to cut down my posts to at least two or three a week which I feel would be manageable. I want to also be able to hire someone to help with the online stores (I actually want a physical retail space where we would also fulfill our online orders). I have a much bigger dream!

The roadblock to getting to that dream right now is finding time. My current schedule looks a bit like this:

My current schedule

I can tell you that my dream schedule would involve only working until 5 p.m. on a daily basis. I have a few weeks coming up where my full time job work day is going to go until 8:00 p.m. and during those days, I’m going to have to manage to find time in between to make it to my doctor’s appointments and my son’s appointments. No wonder I’ve been on edge lately. I need a break, but I can’t take one right now. I have too much that I need to do, but I want too much, also. I have to remind myself of that. I create signs and stick them to the wall in front of where I work to remind myself of what is important. This is a small sacrifice for something much larger– something much greater. It’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make to achieve my dream.

For that reason, and that reason alone, I make time for my business. I find the time to write, even if I’m not physically writing. Planning. Researching. Reading. Those are all things that are involved in blogging. You should research, read, plan out things, and write. I plan out my content calendar. I rearrange my content calendar if I need more time to research something. I’m always reading things that are in the niche or topic that I write about so that I can continually know what is going on in that field. Those are all activities that are linked to my blog. I try not to kick myself too much if I can’t meet a specific deadline. At least right now. If writing was the only thing that I did for a job, I would hold myself more accountable, but right now, I’m building my foundation. I understand that not meeting a deadline means that it pushes my dream farther out, and I’m learning to avoid that, as well. Until then, I will push on. I will block out time. I will sit down and do something each day with Saturday and Sunday being the days that I am able to churn out the most content.
