Often I try to reread books that I own, especially my books on business. Sometimes those books offer immense wisdom on running and operating a business, and sometimes you learn things that suddenly make so much more sense than they did when you first picked the book up. That can be said about the book by Kelly Rand titled Handmade to Sell.

When I first read Rand’s book in 2017, I bookmarked and highlighted things that I felt relevant to what I was wanting to learn about a business selling handmade items. Since reading it, I’ve learned much on my own or through other sources, and reading this book once more after beginning, I found myself ready to implement other ideas that I was not ready to embrace in 2017. For one, my business has grown and changed. I can now define it more clearly and I have a clear set of goals for myself. I am also ready to embrace examining my analytics in a way that I was not ready to before, plus planning for shows. My first show in 2018 was not the best. I learned a lot, but at the same time, I also learned that I need to have more visually interesting displays. The book addresses selling in person at craft fairs, juried craft shows, and more. It also discusses licensing your work.

Overall, Handmade to Sell is a great book that is still relevant 11 years out from its publication. If you are just starting out, I highly recommend this book as a resource to have in your library.
