What the new Google changes mean for you as an online business owner

Google will soon be making changes, and those new Google changes mean that you, as an online business owner or blogger, will need to adapt if you are going to be successful online. Writing using AI (Artificial Intelligence) software has become the newest rage. Currently I’m still experimenting with the use of AI for writing blogs and hope to publish my experiment next month as I will have used it consistently, but for Google to use AI in their searches means many changes.

I am always trying to stay on top of the latest changes, and I am constantly reading news trends online. When I came across Income School’s YouTube post about this particular Google news, I had to stop and take notes. (You can find their video below)

While AI has been in the development for quite sometimes, in the last 2 months the use of AI by many companies has become widespread. AI is being used to write content, create images, and more. Why not use it for searches?

According to Income School, there are several big changes that Google using AI will create. For those who have online businesses or who blog, the changes that will affect you the most will be the lack of snippets and the change to product searches. If you are a blogger, you will definitely want to rank in the top 10 search results as a page 1 result will no longer benefit you.

Most of the time, as bloggers, you’ve been told that you want to achieve being the snippet as it will put you at the top of the page; however, AI will be taking over that snippet area. From what I learned watching the video, the AI will create an answer to your specific questions based on the information that it finds online thereby taking over the snippet. A list of website are included with the AI generated answer (its list of sources), so the searcher can decide to click on the websites for more information, but to be truthful, noting my student’s search engine usage, the searcher may not do that. Income School noted that writing targeted posts that utilize question (title) and answer (the post itself) content may no longer be necessary, but they also suggested that you do not go in and just change up your content or titles because of this. I agree. More research needs to be completed before getting to that point.

The other change is in how users will search for products. Because of the AI, you will be able to include specific information in your query (i.e. What is the best red bike to commute 5 miles to work daily over hilly terrain?). Note the adjectives of best, color, number, etc. These things will be important if you are selling a product. Considering the fact that I have several online retail businesses, before these changes are made, I plan to go back and make changes to my product descriptions. You will want to have more information in your product titles and descriptions because the AI will review all of the query’s specifics and search to give an adequate product suggestion or suggestions. My advice to deal with this is to make sure that your product description, picture alt tags, and more are all text rich.
