Business Ideas Growing Your Business

Why I became a business owner

For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to own and operate my own business. When I started making bears, quilts, and custom dresses nearly 20 years ago, I knew I could use my crafty side to make money. Fast forward to 2019 when I was in the hospital, not certain if I would be able to go back to my regular job. As I was sitting in the hospital waiting on cardiac tests to be run, I started brainstorming ideas. That’s when I came up with the concept for K and R Styles (now, K and R Styles LLC).

Since October 2019, I have been steadily growing my business. At one time, we even sold on Etsy, but I’m not a huge fan of the platform. Instead, after being closed down suddenly, I felt the need to focus on my own website and grow from there.

My business went dormant in August 2022 due to being displaced from our home, but now that we are in a more permanent location, I’m planning to build up the business by taking up where I left off.

The biggest reason for being a business owner is the flexibility that this gives me. I not only have another source of income, but depending on the amount of time and effort I place into it, the business itself can become a sustainable business or remain a second income as a side hustle.
