Holiday Prep Work

If you have a handmade business, you need to understand that holiday prep work starts long before the holiday season. My Halloween prep started around July. September starts my Christmas prep. Holidays always run several months ahead.

A friend asked me why. I looked at them and said, “Algorithms need months to pick up your product for the search engines. On top of that, if you create a great item for a holiday, but you only have a week to sell it, is it worth it?”

Sure I could create my Trick or Treat bags at the beginning of October and hope that people will see them in time, or I can have them ready two months prior, the search engines have them in their sights, and then I reap two months worth of rewards. I think I’ll take the two months to a few weeks or less, don’t you?

Plus, if you know you have something that is going to sell, you want to have a good many prepped.

My week this week will be new Christmas listings and sewing items that I’m running low on. I have a lot of things that have been favorited, and I feel like those things are favorited because of Christmas coming up, so I want to make sure that when Christmas selling season rolls around, I will have nothing to worry about. Keeping your stock up is also a big issue, because the second week in December is all you get before orders dwindle down.

If you want to make awesome profit from the holidays, you have to make sure that you are planning well ahead of the holiday. So do you have your Christmas items ready?
